Invitation - Making Natural Capital Count - 4th of May 2017 - Brussels
30-03-2017Environmental performance of many businesses has improved a lot over the last decades. But new challenges arise.
Nearly half of the world's 1.200 largest businesses would be unprofitable if they had to pay their fair share of the $3.4 trillion environmental and social costs of their resource consumption and pollution. In the light of these numbers, businesses are increasingly aware that ecosystem degradation and depletion of natural resources are important material risks for their business operations and long term survival.
In order to manage and reduce these risks, businesses need to understand their dependencies and impacts on natural capital, and how they can measure and value them. During the seminar "Making Natural Capital Count", Arcadis and Naturalogic will present why natural capital is crucial for businesses, and how they can start working on it.
Please be welcome:
Thursday 4 May at 11h
Cercle de Lorraine / Club van Lotharingen
Place Poelaertplein 6 - 1000 Brussels
The first 20 to register will receive a complimentary hard copy of the Natural Capital Protocol (1 per company)
The event "Making Natural Capital Count" is a lunch seminar exclusively targeting the Belgian business sector. We are pleased to welcome Mr Mark Gough, Executive Director of the Natural Capital Coalition, as a keynote speaker. The Natural Capital Coalition is the driving force behind the Natural Capital Protocol, the first global framework for businesses to account for natural capital.
The seminar aims to provide you with some first insights on the following topics:
- Is natural capital just a new term for 'environment' or is it more?
- Which are the risks for my business of failing to sufficiently account for natural capital impacts and dependencies?
- How can a natural capital approach in line with the Natural Capital Protocol reduce risks?
- How to measure and value some more challenging components of natural capital such as biodiversity?
- How can natural capital valuation facilitate communication with stakeholders?
The lunch seminar will be followed by a limited capacity round table in the presence of Mr Gough. We advise all interested to register as soon as possible via the online registration page.
