Zurich/Brussels, May 04, 2021: The Belgian climate action pioneer CO2logic today announced it is joining the South Pole group, the international Swiss-based leader in climate and environmental services. CO2logic clients will gain access to South Pole's network of global services in a fast-moving sector, where international expertise is crucial. In return, South Pole clients will benefit from CO2logic experience in Belgium and France. South Pole and CO2logic are among the longest-standing climate action companies globally, both created around 15 years ago. The addition of CO2logic is aligned with South Pole's strategy to increase its global presence for its clients, with local expertise and know-how.
Since 2007, CO2logic — a BCorp certified company — has pioneered a 4-step approach: calculate, reduce, offset GHG emissions, and communicate on credible climate action. Over almost 15 years, nearly a thousand companies from Belgium, France, The Netherlands and beyond have benefited from the expertise of their CO2 advisors to enhance their responsibility for the environment. Today, 50% of the BEL20 stock market index corporations work with the company. The CO2logic team, made up of over 30 engineers, works closely with partners to act on climate, at the equivalent of over 2% of Belgian CO2 emissions on an annual basis.
South Pole, a social enterprise recognised by the World Economic Forum's Schwab Foundation, has developed nearly 1,000 projects in over 50 countries to massively reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Projects range from sustainable agriculture, forest conservation, waste management, energy efficiency, to decentralized renewable energy. Across the world, South Pole enables thousands of leading companies, including Nestlé, L'Oréal, and Tetra Pak, to achieve net-zero emissions.
By joining South Pole, one of the largest carbon project developers in the world, CO2logic can offer clients an expanded range of services. South Pole provides private companies and governments with sustainability solutions to realise deep decarbonisation pathways across industries, based on a thorough understanding of climate risks and opportunities. As South Pole rapidly expands to meet a huge growth in demand, CO2logic is joining at a strategic moment, with great potential to help realize climate ambition, support a common vision and the core belief that global economies and society can only thrive if organizations embed sustainability into the core of their activities.
With combined resources, CO2logic and South Pole will ramp up their impact on international climate action, drive the demand for company Net Zero targets and CO2 neutrality labels, further develop innovative digital solutions for emissions management systems, including satellite monitoring of forests, and support a stronger international push for corporate action. Both companies also develop emission reduction projects on the ground and will work together to scale this up, as demand for high-quality emission reductions grows.
"To halt climate change we have to act right now. As more and more companies come on board for this quest, the combined expertise of South Pole and CO2logic will enable thousands of them to move towards net zero emissions.
We see an increasing number of Belgium-based companies investing in climate strategies. In response, we are expanding and doubling down on our global leadership in this space," said Renat Heuberger, co-founder and CEO at South Pole.
"Renat Heuberger and I have known each other for many years now. I have always appreciated his expertise, dedication, and gentlemen's approach to our impactful activities. By working together, we are ready to respond to the urgent and broad expertise needs in our fast-evolving sector", said Antoine Geerinckx, founder of CO2logic.
For CO2logic, there will be no change at the management and operational level. Its mission will remain the same: to fight climate change and its socio-economic consequences through high-quality advisory services and climate project development. The company will continue to work with current stakeholders and clients. By partnering with South Pole, CO2logic expands its network of expertise and services to serve clients better, with equal dedication and full commitment to positive environmental, social, and economic impact.
South Pole, recognised by the World Economic Forum as a Social Enterprise, has been at the forefront of decarbonization since 2006. With its global Climate Solutions platform, South Pole develops and implements comprehensive strategies that turn climate action into long-term business opportunities for companies, governments and organizations around the world.
South Pole is also a leading project developer, and has provided nearly 1,000 projects in over 50 countries with climate finance to reduce over a gigaton of CO2 emissions, and to provide social benefits to less privileged communities who are particularly vulnerable to climate change.
