Challenge: To calculate and offset the carbon footprint for the film Electrick Children and to reduce emissions of future productions.

Partnership: Electrick Children is an independent American production by Rebecca Thomas, telling the story about a Mormon girl who is convinced that her pregnancy is the result of an immaculate conception. During the preparation of such a production, the shooting and post-production, enormous amounts of energy are being used: fuel-driven generators, transport, lighting,… To reduce the impact on the climate, the production team partnered with CO2logic, who calculated how many tonnes of CO₂ was emitted by the entire production and what solutions were required to reduce energy use and offset the remaining emissions.

Results: The initial calculations indicated that such a film production has a considerable impact on the climate. By introducing CO2logic’s proposals, it was possible to reduce emissions as well as financial costs significantly. This encouraged director Jessica Caldwell to introduce a different approach in future productions reducing their impact on the climate. An additional incentive was the offsetting project that compensated the remaining emissions while helping African communities.
