Challenge: carbon footprint, energy efficiency and carbon neutrality of more than 400 European parking facilities
Partnership: Since 2010 the Interparking Group has entrusted CO2logic with the privilege of implementing its strategy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. At the outset, only Interparking Belgium was concerned by the process. Today, 9 countries in which Interparking operates calculate, reduce and offset their CO2 emissions.
Interparking has set two main ambitious objectives, namely to:
- Reduce the carbon footprint of the parking facilities by 50% by 2020 compared with 2014;
- Reduce energy consumption by 20% by 2020 compared with 2014, which will improve energy efficiency and reduce generation costs.
The group’s absolute carbon footprint has now been reduced by 15% compared with the reference year 2014. The reduction is of the same magnitude in terms of emissions per employee. The implementation of LED systems and home automation is producing results for the energy efficiency of parking facilities, because in just two years the Group has increased its efficiency by 9%. At this rate the objectives set will be reached and exceeded.
To offset the irreducible emissions, 4,580 improved hearths were distributed in Uganda under the Gold Standard project “saving trees.” This project not only prevents deforestation, but also improves considerably the quality of life of beneficiary households of these fireplaces (http://www.savingtrees.org/ ).
These actions make Interparking a major player in the development of sustainable mobility. CO2logic is proud to be part of this new awareness and orientation of the Interparking group.
