End of 2019, Deceuninck-Quickstep finalized its first carbon footprint assessment related to the Cycling Team Trainings during one year. Following the communication of the results, they wanted to support positive climate projects in order to balance the CO2 emissions related to the annual trainings and the CO2 avoided by these climate projects.
CO2logic helped Deceuninck-Quistep to identify all the carbon impacts to calculate in order to get the carbon footprint overview and analyse all the reduction potentials. Once done, Deceunick-Quickstep decided to get “CO2 neutral” labelled by implementing the last offsetting step.
With the support of CO2logic, Deceuninck-Quickstep decided to offset its carbon impact through:
- the support of a Gold Standard certified climate project in Uganda. The project provides safe drinking wells to rural populations in Uganda. Without these wells, people have to rely on water from polluted sources, which causes a lot of health concerns. In order to purify the water, it must be boiled first, which requires a lot of firewood;
- the extra support of 3 French forestry projects identified in the area of the Mont-Ventoux. These projects are to avoid the forest to be clear-cut and extend the growth of the forest in order to valorise the future forest products in the furniture or construction sectors. These projects have been implemented from scratch, together with CO2logic, the Centre National de la Propriété Forestière (CNPF) and the Parc Naturel Régional du Mont-Ventoux.
