Degroof Bank becomes "CO2 Neutral"

When the Private Bank Degroof manages its’ clients assets, it is always with a long term view. The transition from one generation to the next is often a priority for the people who the bank advises. In this context caring about the environment makes complete sense: what reason would managing a clients portfolios for their children and grandchildren have if the planet they live in is destroyed? It is for this reason that the Banque Degroof has decided take action in favor of a better environment and has committed itself to direct and indirect action.  Most notably the bank has committed to going CO2 Neutral.

Knowing that one can control better what one knows the bank decided to calculate its carbon footprint. To do this they called upon CO2logic who is certified to use the well recognized Bilan Carbone* method of the ADEME (French Agency for Environment and Energy Management).

This audit allowed the bank to recognize its climate impact over the period 2006-2007. They therefore now hold a tool which gives them an overview of their emissions and which will help them take wise and well informed decisions in the future.

As well as the measures taken to reduce their CO2 emissions the Bank has decided to offset its emissions. Offsetting finds its origins in the Kyoto protocol mechanisms. Here again the bank called upon the expertise of CO2logic and their carbon reducing projects which are certified by the United Nations. The sustainable and ecological project which was supported by the Bank Degroof is situated in India. It produces green renewable electricity from biomass through purchasing the local farmers agricultural waste.
