Shred-it Belgium goes CO2 Neutral

It is accepted by all that climate change is a reality and a challenge we have to face up to. The change is mainly due to Greenhouse Gases of which Carbon Dioxide is the most important. Anthropogenic sources are clearly at the root of the problem.

Shred-it wanted to take its environmental responsibilities even further. The company is already trusted and respected for their experience and service in the destruction of confidential documents. Furthermore many appreciate the fact that their waste is then sent to a recycling center (1650 tons in 2007) which contributes directly to combating deforestation and global warming. However they wante  wanted to take its environmental responsibility even further.

However the company did not want to leave it at that. Thus as a socially responsible company Shred-it decided to take things a step further.  Committed to doing things fully they called upon CO2logic to calculate their Carbon footprint. CO2logic identified the reductions needed to get to CO2 Neutrality.

Action
With the help of a CO2 audit, CO2logic laid out the carbon reduction opportunities related to the truck fleet belonging to the company. Key Driving Competences was contracted to train the Shred-it drivers to drive in a more ecologically friendly manner which contributes towards reducing NOx and CO2 emissions.

Offsetting
Shred-it wanted to become CO2 Neutral and thus decided to offset its remaining emissions. Offsetting involves financing CO2 emission reduction projects such as renewable energy projects or energy efficiency projects, which allow the reduction of an equivalent emitted volume of CO2. The underlying principle being that a fixed quantity of Co2 emitted in one location can be « offset » by a the reduction of an identical quantity in another location. Carbon offsetting is an important element of the fight against climate change.
