Together with Green association and the educational project WaterWeer&Wind, CO2logic put their knowledge together to contribute towards limiting climate change. “The idea of this educational project sprung from the demand by some teachers in primary and secondary schools who were interested in having some educational sessions on environmental issues. “We found in Green asbl the perfect experienced partner to handle this educational program.”, explain the initiators of this project, Marc De Keyser and Tom Elegeert. Both working as climatologist at the meteorological and oceanographic station (OMS) in Zeebruges.
“For the last 10 years, we have developed campaigns, trainings and educational themes on the subject of sustainable development: water, energy and climate, mobility, consumption and waste, nature…” confirms Luc Michiels of Green asbl. “With this project, we want to involve today’s youth. We hope to inform them about the entire issue of global warming so that they can commit themselves with full understanding to take action for the climate and the environment. It is an essential step to combat global warming.” “CO2logic has exactly the same objectives” adds Antoine Geerinckx, who runs CO2logic with Tanguy du Monceau. We are helping companies to diminish their impact on climate change. Awareness is crucial and has to start as soon as possible… following this observation we chose to support this initiative.” “We think it is essential to promote the significance of the environment and climate change in cooperation with the teachers in order to integrate these topics into the academic schedule” says Luc Michiels. Free educational sessions via the website www.climate-education.be. (Belgium only) “We have received a lot of positive reactions from teachers regarding this course however the budget to cover the animation expenses was too small. This was thee weak point of our initiative” says Luc Michiels. But something came up! CO2logic clients can offset their emissions by supporting CO2 reduction projects recognized by the UNFCCC and Gold Standard*. “This money is mainly used, according to the Kyoto principles, to help the developing countries or the emerging countries (e.g. India) to switch from fossil fuel energies to renewable energies” points-out Antoine Geerinckx. “But by supporting Green asbl, we can also bring an important contribution to our country.” (*UNFCCC = United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change) “Thanks to the support of CO2logic, we can offer our services to schools for free. We expect significant demand from schools. They can subscribe on the website www.climate-education.be” points out Mr Luc Michiels.
