1. Use low energy light bulbs
By replacing a normal light bulb with a CFL (compact fluorescent light bulb), you will reduce your CO2 emissions by 19 kg a year.
2. Drive less
Walk and cycle more often or use public transport more. For every kilometre you don’t drive, you will reduce your CO2 emissions by approx. 182.52 g!
3. Recycle more
You can reduce your CO2 emissions by 1,080 kg per year when you recycle half of your household waste.
4. Check your tires
Correct tire pressure will enable you to reduce your car fuel consumption by more than 3%. One litre less fuel means 2.4 kg less CO2 in the atmosphere!
5. Use less hot water
Heating water uses a lot of energy. Reduce your hot water usage by fitting a water-saving showerhead (166 kg less CO2 per year) and by washing clothes at cold or lukewarm temperatures (225 kg less CO2 per year).
6. Avoid products with a lot of packaging
You will reduce your CO2 emissions by 540 kg when cutting down waste by 10%.
7. Adjust your thermostat
Lowering your thermostat by 2 degrees will produce about 900 kg less CO2 per year.
8. Plant a tree
During its lifetime (not per year!) a tree will absorb one ton of CO2.
9. Switch off electrical appliances completely
Switch off your TV set, DVD player, laptop and stereo completely when you’re not using them: this means 140.14 kg less CO2 per year.
